Meet: Miracle

Miracle's Story

Some animals come into your life for a reason. Our baby bison, Miracle, is one of them.

 

Miracle was born on April 9, 2025, at Majestic Bison Ranch. For the first few days, everything seemed normal. But on Saturday, April 12th, we found her alone and abandoned by her mother.

 

She was extremely weak.

 

She could barely stand, hardly moved, and weighed only 34 pounds. We knew that if we didn't step in, she probably wouldn't survive. We carefully picked her up and brought her to the house. After a quick trip to get milk replacer, we began the challenge of teaching a baby bison how to drink from a bottle. It took patience, but eventually she figured it out.

 

We set up a temporary home for her inside our stock trailer with a heat lamp to keep her warm and comfortable. Those first few days were touch and go. She was weak and tired, and every feeding felt like a small victory.

 

On Monday morning, we loaded her into the back of our SUV and took her to the veterinarian. What happened next gave us our first glimpse of the fighter inside her. When we arrived, we took Miracle out of the SUV and she walked straight into the barn where the doctor was waiting. The veterinarian examined her and prescribed a month of antibiotics to help her recover.

 

Back at the ranch, the stock trailer became her nursery. We filled it with fresh hay and made it her safe place. Soon she had plenty of visitors. The cats, chickens, and our dog were all curious about the tiny bison calf living among them.

 

For the next two months, caring for Miracle became part of our daily routine. We bottle-fed her three times a day, and she would drink a pint of milk at each feeding. At first, she didn't want to get up and move around, so we encouraged her to exercise. We even put a dog collar on her and walked her around the ranch. Most of the time, she would happily follow us and then head right back to her trailer when she was done.

 

Little by little, she grew stronger.

As the weeks passed, her personality began to shine. What started as a weak calf fighting to survive turned into a playful and curious young bison. By July, she was running around the ranch and exploring the backyard on her own.

 

We eventually allowed her to roam freely around the yard. She loved sleeping beside the back door and would often stare through the glass looking for us, as if she wanted to come inside and visit.

 

Like any youngster, she got herself into trouble from time to time. She fell into the swimming pool on a couple of occasions, but to our surprise, she turned out to be an excellent swimmer.

 

Today, Miracle loves attention. She enjoys being petted and brushed, and she has become one of the sweetest animals on the ranch. Anyone who meets her quickly understands why she was given her name.

 

Miracle isn't just a bison calf.

 

She is a reminder that sometimes a little faith, a lot of hard work, and plenty of love can change the outcome of a life. What began as a desperate rescue became one of the greatest blessings our ranch has ever known.

 

She truly is our Miracle.
